HAIR RAISING
Enormous thanks to everyone who was involved in Project Eileen’s 2023 awareness and fundraising campaign Hair Raising 2023.
For the second year running, we opened up the conversation around the subject of bereavement, death and grief in salons and barbershops across the UK.
We are very grateful to all the fabulous hairdressers and barbers nationwide who took part by putting up posters and handing out leaflets to let their customers know about the work Project Eileen does to help schools help teenagers in the UK. From Basingstoke to Rugeley, from Brighton to Grimsby, from Birmingham to Coleraine, from Edinburgh to Wrexham. Everywhere, you were tremendous!
In return, we felt very proud this year to be able to support hair professionals by providing our short Guidance Video featuring our Patron, Andrew Barton, alongside our Guidance Sheet, both created to help hairdressers and barbers know what to say and do when dealing with clients who are experiencing bereavement and grief.
However small your role in the campaign, you helped to make a difference and we’re very grateful. Special thanks go to our sponsors W&P Legal.
Keep an eye on this space for what’s happening next.

What does it involve? It’s easy and you don’t need to do very much. All or some of the following would be fantastic: Put up a small poster in the window; Display leaflets; Display the donation QR code beside the till, on mirrors, etc; Tell customers that you’re supporting the charity Project Eileen by being a Hair Raiser; Talk to customers about what Project Eileen does: The charity provides a free programme of lessons to UK schools to help teenagers cope with bereavement, death and grief; Ask customers who can afford to whether they’d like to donate using the QR code; Post about your support for Project Eileen on your social media
-
What else could I do to help? You could get creative and hold your own fundraiser. Ideas include: a raffle; a guess the number of hairpins/combs/sweets etc. in the jar; a photo caption competition. You could follow Project Eileen on social media and encourage your customers to follow us too. You could send us photos to put on our social media. You could suggest to your customers to go on our website and nominate a school that they feel might benefit from teaching the Project Eileen Programme of lessons to their students. You could nominate a school too.
-
How will it benefit me and/or my staff?Project Eileen provides every salon, barbershop and independent that takes part with a link to our short Guidance Video, featuring our Patron, Andrew Barton, as well as an exclusive Guidance Sheet giving practical advice to hairdressers and barbers on how to talk to clients who are experiencing bereavement and grief and helping hair professionals know what to do. Salons and barbershops that take part will be promoted on all Project Eileen’s social media with their logos and photos and potentially on local radio stations, local TV and in local newspapers and online media.
-
I’m an independent/freelance hairdresser/barber, can I still take part?Yes, you can definitely take part. We will send you the Hair Raising pack and you can still put up the poster indoors if you don’t have a shop window.
-
When will I receive my Hair Raising pack? From March/April 2024 we will start sending out packs in the post via Royal Mail.
